Connecting the BOSS TONE STUDIO Android app to the GX-1 unit
- Turn on the GX-1 and your mobile device.
- In your mobile device’s settings, turn Bluetooth on.
NOTE
Do not tap “GX-1 MIDI” if you see it in the Bluetooth settings of your mobile device. If you tapped this, temporarily cancel the device registration and perform the procedure again from step 2.
- Press the [MENU] button on the GX-1.
- Press the [å] and [ä] buttons on the GX-1 to move the cursor to the “Bluetooth” row.
- Turn the [3] knob on the GX-1 to select “Bluetooth”.
- Turn the [1] knob on the GX-1 to turn the Bluetooth switch on.

See the “EV-1-WL Connection Guide” or the “FS-1-WL Connection Guide” (both on the Roland website) when connecting the FS-1-WL wireless footswitch or the EV-1-WL wireless expression pedal to the GX-1.
- Launch the “BOSS TONE STUDIO for GX-1” app that you installed on your mobile device.
- The “Terms of Use” screen is shown.
- Enable the Bluetooth function and location data when the app prompts you to do so during startup.
- This screen only appears when the app launches for the first time.
- Click “AGREE” to agree to the contents after you’ve read them.
- The BLUETOOTH SETUP screen appears.
- Enable the Bluetooth function and location data when the app prompts you to do so.
- Tap [CONNECT] as shown on the BLUETOOTH SETUP screen.
- If more than one compatible GX-1 is detected, a selection screen appears.
- Even if more than one GX-1 unit is found, the software automatically connects to the GX-1 that it connected to last time.
- If “GX-1 MIDI” is not shown, tap “SCAN” at the very bottom of the Bluetooth Devices screen to search again.
- If “Bluetooth Pairing Request” appears, tap “Pair”.
- The editor screen is shown once the connection is made.
If you can’t connect
Check each of the following items, one at a time.
- Is the Bluetooth switch turned on in the settings of the GX-1?
- If it is off, turn on the Bluetooth switch from the [MENU] button Ó BluetoothÓ BT SW.
- In the GX-1 settings, are you able to connect via Bluetooth?
- Check if “CONNECTING” is shown on the Bluetooth screen of the GX-1, or press the [ä] button several times on the play screen and check whether “ň: 〇, MIDI: X” is shown onscreen.
- If “MIDI: 〇” is shown, the GX-1 is already connected to another mobile device. Turn the Bluetooth switch on the GX-1 off to disconnect, or turn Bluetooth off on your mobile device and then reconnect (except if you have connected to an FS-1-WL or EV-1-WL).
- In step 2, could you have tapped a product name shown on the mobile device?
- When you turn the Bluetooth switch on in step 2, “GX-1 MIDI” might appear in the device list, but you should not tap it. If you tapped it, clear the pairing and try again from step 1.
- Turn Bluetooth on and off again
- Turn your mobile device’s Bluetooth switch off and then on again.
- Close all apps, and try again from step 1
- If you’ve checked steps 1–3 and still cannot connect to the app, close all apps that are running on your mobile device.
- If the device is paired, clear the pairing.
- Turn on your mobile device and the GX-1
- If you’ve checked steps 1–4 and still cannot connect to the app, turn off the mobile device and the GX-1, wait for about 10 seconds, and turn them on again.
- If the device is paired, clear the pairing.
- If you’ve checked steps 1–5 and still cannot connect to the app, contact Roland support.
