Troubles with sound

No sound, or insufficient volume

Is the external device connected correctly to the SPD-SX PRO?

Check the connection method.

Is there a short in the audio cable?

Replace the cable.

 

Are you using an audio cable that contains a built-in resistor?

If so, use cables that do not contain resistors.

 

Is the volume of the connected amp or mixer turned down?

Adjust the level appropriately.

 

Has the volume on the SPD-SX PRO been lowered?

Adjust the level appropriately.

ØTurning the power on/off

Do you hear sound coming through headphones?

If you hear sound in your headphones, there may be a short in the connection cable, or there may be a problem with the connected amp or mixer. Check the connected device and method of connection.

 

Has the volume of the device connected to the AUDIO IN jacks been lowered?

Adjust the level appropriately.

 

Is the input level turned down too low?

Adjust the Rec Level appropriately.

ØCreating a Wave by Sampling (SAMPLING)

Adjust the AUDIO IN VOLUME to an appropriate value.

ØRear Panel (Connecting Your Equipment)

Has LOCAL CONTROL been set to “OFF”?

When LOCAL CONTROL is set to “OFF”, performance data is not sent directly to the internal sound generator of the SPD-SX PRO when you strike the pad.

Set LOCAL CONTROL to “ON”.

A specific pad does not sound

Has the volume of the wave been lowered?

Adjust the wave volume.

ØBasic Settings (PAD EDIT)

Is the OUTPUT configured correctly?

Check the OUTPUT settings.

ØEffect and Output Destination Settings (OUTPUT/EFFECTS)

PAD/TRIG IN/FOOT SW CONTROL might have been set.

If PAD/TRIG IN/FOOT SW CONTROL is set for a pad when you strike it, that pad does not make a sound.

Set PAD/TRIG IN/FOOT SW CONTROL to “OFF”.

Has EXT CTRL been set to “ON”?

When EXT CTRL is set to “ON”, the unit enters a mode in which control change messages are transmitted and received. In this mode, the pads do not produce sound when struck.

Set EXT CTRL to “OFF”.

Problems with USB

USB flash drive is connected but not recognized; or data cannot be selected

Is the USB flash drive properly connected?

Check that the USB flash drive is connected properly.

Are you using the correct USB flash drive type?

Use a USB flash drive sold by Roland. We cannot guarantee correct operations of other products with this unit.

 

Unable to communicate with computer

Is the USB cable properly connected?

Check that the USB cable is connected properly.

Is the USB driver installed?

A USB driver is required when using USB audio or USB MIDI. Install the USB driver on your computer first.

Have the USB MODE settings been made correctly?

Choose the setting that’s appropriate for your situation.

Cannot load WAV file

Is the WAV file using the correct filename and format

?

Check the filename and format of the WAV file.

ØImporting an Audio File (IMPORT)

Troubles with MIDI

No sound

Is the MIDI cable properly connected?

Check that the MIDI cable is connected properly.

Could there be a short in the MIDI cable?

Replace the cable.

 

Is the MIDI channel set correctly?

Set the MIDI channels of the SPD-SX PRO and the external MIDI device to the same setting.

Has the note number been set correctly?

No sound is produced when a note number is received that has not been set for a pad. Change the note number or switch to a kit with a different note number.
