Connecting other devices

To prevent malfunction and equipment failure, always turn down the volume, and turn off all the devices before making any connections.
Before turning the unit on/off, always be sure to turn the volume down. Even with the volume turned down, you might hear some sound when switching the unit on/off. However, this is normal and does not indicate a malfunction.


Name of jack, port or connector	Explanation
INPUT L/MONO, R (RETURN)	Connect your guitar or the output(s) of another effect unit to be inserted into the effect chain before this unit. When connecting this unit after a stereo effect unit in the effect chain, connect to the R (RETURN) jack as well. OUTPUT L/MONO, R (SEND)	Connect these to your guitar amp, mixer or other external audio equipment. If using a mono connection, connect only to the L/MONO jack. CTL1(3),2(4)/EXP	You can control various parameters by connecting an expression pedal (FV-500L, FV-500H, EV-30, Roland EV-5: sold separately) or a footswitch (FS-5U, FS-5L, FS-6, FS-7: sold separately). Use only the specified expression pedal. By connecting any other expression pedals, you risk causing malfunction and/or damage to the unit. MIDI IN/OUT	Connect an external MIDI device here.
ă (USB Type-C®)	Use a USB cable to connect to a computer, for exchanging MIDI data between the EX-4 and the computer. Do not use a USB cable that is designed only for charging. Charge-only cables cannot transmit data.
DC IN	Connect the included AC adaptor (PSA-S series) here. Use only the specified AC adaptor, and connect it to an AC outlet of the correct voltage.
Ground terminal	Connect this to an external earth or ground if necessary.
